Energica Eva – The Tesla of motorcycles

Energica Eva is the second release of “the Tesla of motorcycles”

Few people know electric motorcycle world is very small but very dynamic, Energica Eva being a very good example. True, there have been failures (eg Mission Electric company declared bankruptcy this year), but we are witnessing some interesting future plans (like 100% electric BMW project ERR).


 

Now, however, we are talking about a company that calls itself “the Tesla of motorcycles”. Ok, now that the Tesla name caught your attention, it should be noted that, in fact, there is no link between Tesla Motors and Energica Motor Company (find more about the company by clicking here), the second being founded in Modena from the passion of Italians and Americans. But Energica is focused on creating high performance electric motorcycles, their first model, Energica Ego, being sold for 25,000 euros (excluding taxes).

At EICMA (Esposizione Internazionale Ciclo Motociclo e Accessori) 2015 event, the Italian company launches the series version of the second electric motorcycle model. Few people know Energica Eva is actually the “naked” version of Energica Ego. Energica Eva is named by its producer “the first 100% electric streetfighter made in Italy”: a perfect combination of agility and aggressive riding. Energica Eva has a permanent magnet AC (PMAC) oil cooled motor that produces 70kW (95 hp c.ca) of instantaneous power and a torque of 170 Nm. The electric streetfighter has a range up to 200km (ECO mode) and can reach a top speed of 200km/h in Sport mode.

Like Energica Ego, Energica Eva’s battery is constantly monitored and managed by a sophisticated Vehicle Control Unit. Energica Eva does not have a gearbox or a clutch. Everything is regulated through the ride-by-wire system, allowing you to control the acceleration and deceleration of the motor with the integrated regenerative torque braking fully adjustable by the rider. A coasting feature is provided as a “neutral” position between acceleration and regeneration. The company is proud to say that Energica Eva is the only electric streetfighter with an integrated fast charge system. It can be charged at home, but is also compatible with the commercial recharging stations (for the producer’s technical sheet click here).

The Italian company proves that we are talking about some serious plans for the future. A future in which I look at as many companies from automotive to migrate to the conventional electric propulsion. Don’t forget to be curious! Be smart!
